Mayweather Promotions is pleased to announce another addition to our growing stable of exciting fighters. We have proven we are here to stay, and we plan on giving the fans more exciting fights,” said Leonard Ellerbe (CEO of Mayweather Promotions).

“Hitchins is a star in the making and we are in a position to get him to world champion status.”

The two-time Golden Gloves champion has been boxing since the age of 12, honing his skills at the Atlas Cops & Kids gym in Brooklyn. Hitchins has sparred and gained invaluable experience from the likes of champions Terence Crawford (current WBO, WBC, and Ring super lightweight champion), Gervonta Davis (IBF super featherweight champion), Sadam Ali (title contender and 2008 United States Olympian), and Luis Collazo (former WBA welterweight champion).

These experiences, in combination with his embedded boxing ability, are what catapulted Hitchins to the attention of Mayweather Promotions President, Floyd Mayweather.

Hitchins discussed his decision to sign a promotional contract with Mayweather Promotions, one of the premier promotional companies in boxing.

“I met Floyd at the Olympics. After I fought I told him that I was ready to start my professional career. He flew me out to Vegas in October. We spoke a lot about boxing and business. We discussed what I envisioned for my career and which promotional deals would be the best for me.”

“I received offers from several promotional companies. He (Floyd) encouraged me to take my time and make the best decision for myself. I feel like I’m in the right situation to start my career. Mayweather Promotions made the best offer of all of them. They have owned up to everything that they promised.”

“I’m focused on March 4. I will be starting my career at 140lb. I don’t know if I’ll become a knockout artist or if I’ll wow the fans with my talent. I have a long career ahead of me. I have a lot more years of growing and a lot more work to put in. I’m just looking to get better every day.”

Hitchins, on the cusp of beginning his professional career, is more than aware of the adjustments that need to be made in order to achieve success and accomplish his goal of becoming a world champion.

“I am prepared to fight and ready to win in front of my home crowd, my home city, and my fans. I’ve sparred with plenty of great fighters but like Floyd says “sparring doesn’t mean anything”; you need to see what type of fighter I am when I’m fighting in a real fight.”

“Everyone that’s been with me since the beginning has seen this coming years ago. Everyone that’s been in my circle, from my coaches to my cousins who were in the gym with me during those late nights, we’ve been planning this.”

“Since my signing people want to get close to me. A lot of people say that I’ve changed. Yes, I’ve had to change. This is my life. This is my career. I only have one shot at this and I have a lot of people supporting me. I do not want to let them down.”

Hitchins expressed his appreciation for all who have helped and supported him during this journey.

“I’d like to thank my mother, my little brother, my family, and my coaches (Pat Russo, Aurielano Sosa, and Lenny Wilson). I’d also like to thank Mayweather Promotions for this opportunity and my sponsor Modell’s Sporting Goods.”

“On a personal note, I’m very thankful to Andre Berto (3x world champion) for sponsoring me to fight in the Olympics. Without him I don’t think none of this would be possible. I am also thankful to Julie Goldsticker (USA Boxing) for believing in me.

“I know my Haitian people will come out and support me. They will have someone out there fighting for them. I fight for what’s bigger than me. I’m fighting for my friends, family, and fans.”

Mayweather Promotions has some phenomenal shows and events planned for 2017. Be on the lookout for Richardson Hitchins professional debut on the undercard of Keith Thurman vs. Danny Garcia welterweight unification championship fight at Barclays Center on March 4.
