Brooklyn, N.Y.: “Make no misconceptions, I only want the big fights.” – Seanie Monaghan
Irish Seanie Monaghan (28-0, 17 KOs/WBC Continental Americas light heavyweight champion) has maintained his rankings within the top of the light heavyweight division. He has defeated all challengers but has yet to receive a fight against any of the “Big Three: Andre Ward, Sergey Kovalev, Adonis Stevenson)” that sit atop the division.
With a new promotional team in place there’s a great chance that he will soon get his opportunity to fight for a world title, an opportunity that he deserves and mostly certainly has earned.
“I’ve been hearing about a possible fight against Adonis Stevenson (28-1, 23 KOs/WBC light heavyweight champion). It’s not official but it’s a fight that has a great possibility of being made. I’ve been down this road before and I believe this fight will happen.”
“If the fight gets made it would be a dream come true. I’ve been knocking on the door for a big fight for a long time. I’ve been ranked in the top five of the best light heavyweights in the world for two years.”
“I think Stevenson is one of the hardest punchers in the light heavyweight division. He has a deadly left hand but it takes more than one punch to get me out of there. It’s always easier said than done but I am working on neutralizing that left hand.”
Monaghan, who was previously signed to Top Rank Boxing, has since completed his contractual duties and is now signed with one of the best promoters in boxing Lou DiBella (DiBella Entertainment).
“I’m thankful to have been with Top Rank Boxing. I appreciate all that they did for me with my career. After my contract was over I became a free agent. I decided to sign with DiBella.
“Before I signed with Top Rank Boxing I had a good relationship with Dibella. I had about fifteen fights with him previously. He’s one of the best promoters in boxing. Now that I’m with DiBella it’s a possibility to make fights with people that we were unable to make fights with before. I’m hoping to fight all takers.”
“Andre Ward (31-0, 15 KOs, undisputed WBA, IBF, and WBO light heavyweight champion) is a great champion but Sergey Kovalev (former WBA, IBF, WBO light heavyweight champion) is a still the man to beat in my division. I’m hoping for all these opportunities to come my way. I have dreams of becoming a world champion. I want to leave a legacy in boxing by defeating fighters like them.”
With his promotional team and management in place Monaghan has his sights set on fulfilling a childhood dream which is to fight in front of his hometown fans at the Nassau Memorial Coliseum. With a possible fight with Stevenson in the works, Monaghan is hoping to get the opportunity to headline a major fight card for all the fans to come and see.
“Fighting at the Nassau Memorial Coliseum would be an amazing opportunity. While growing up during the ‘90’s I saw LL Cool J and the Red Hot Chili Peppers perform there.”
“I drive past the coliseum every day. I stare at this place every day. I run and train directly next door to the building. It never occurred to me that one day I could get a chance to fight and win a world title there.”
As Monaghan looks to take his career to the next stage there’s one person in mind that would be the ultimate “dream fight” for fights fans to see.

“One day, before I’m done with my gloves, I will beat Joe Smith Jr. (23-1, 19 KOs/ WBC International light heavyweight champion). I think that fight will always have value in it.”
“We tried to make a fight previously on St. Patrick’s Day but it never happened. I think it can be a very big fight, a fight that will be talked about for years. He is a tough guy. Joe and I fighting for a world title would be an amazing fight.”
With his recent signing to Dibella Entertainment the possibilities and potential for great matchups are looming in the near future for Monaghan. It’s a pretty safe bet that his next fight will be one of epic proportion and will surely bring out tons of fan support.
