This coming Saturday (June 9, 2018), the former Undisputed Super-Lightweight World Champion Terence “Bud” Crawford will face Jeff “The Hornet” Horn for Horn’s World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight title. The bout is scheduled to take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena (Las Vegas) with a start time of 10:00pm (EST).
For Horn (18-0-1, 12 KOs), this will be his second title defense since defeating future hall of famer Manny Pacquiao by unanimous decision back on July 2, 2017. Horn, from Brisbane, Australia overpowered the eight-division world champion through twelve hard-fought rounds, in front of a record-setting crowd of 51,000 at Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium. In doing so, he not only pulled off an upset victory, he put the entire boxing world and welterweight division on notice.
For Crawford (32-0, 23 KOs), he will be taking on the number one welterweight in the world, while seeking to become a three-division world champion with a victory over Horn. Crawford’s dominance of the super-lightweight division was spectacular and amazing. The “Pound-for-Pound” superstar and “Pride” of Omaha, Nebraska is now ready to conquer the welterweight division.
There has been a lot of banter between both fighters via social media (Twitter) but on June 9, all the talking stops.
“I cannot wait to get back in the ring on June 9 and win the WBO welterweight championship,” Crawford said.
“Jeff Horn and his team better be ready because they are going to see a bigger, stronger, and more powerful Terence Crawford. I am going home with that belt.”
“June 9th, I’m bringing greatness to the ring. There’s nothing easy in this life we live. So coming from where I come from, you have to take advantage of every opportunity you get.”
“Defending the world title successfully a second time is a must,” said Horn.
“Crawford is a very talented fighter and deserves his accolades. I will be on a mission to prove the doubters wrong. Obviously, I am a very competitive guy who works really hard to achieve his goals. Crawford is a brilliant boxer, but I am coming to win, and I will win.”
“Crawford’s trash talk has only inspired me that much more to shock the world once again. It’s the number welterweight in the world vs the number one junior welterweight world.”
Will it be Crawford’s speed, phenomenal footwork, quickness, and ring intelligence to gain him the victory or will the current champion utilize his strength, size, and power to overwhelm the fighter who many believe can become a unified and undisputed world champion again?
